MISSION

To foster academic and clinical advancement of early career congenital interventional cardiologists around the globe through collaborative education, research, and networking.

GOALS

  • Establish new membership – recruitment and retention
  • Create forum for open discussion of clinical questions and cases
  • Encourage, foster, and address collaboration for multicenter research projects
  • Assist in identifying educational and professional needs of early career congenital interventionists
  • Develop symposia/educational activities at current meetings highlighting early career personnel
  • Contribute as representatives to national/international organizations
  • Develop new programs and projects related to early career needs
  • Networking events and fostering relationships

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Established in 2011, dedicated to the development of congenital interventionists during the formative stages of their careers.

  • Greater than 250 members to listserv, approximately 65% US and 35% international and growing!

  • Clinical questions and collaborative forum for young career congenital interventionalists.

  • Research collaboration, job postings, academic activities/sessions and dinners at national/international meetings.

Dr. Varun Aggarwal is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and a congenital interventional cardiologist at University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital. A dedicated innovator in minimally invasive therapies for congenital heart disease, Dr. Aggarwal has authored over 80 peer-reviewed publications and received multiple national and international awards. 

Amr Matoq

MD - Research Chair

Dr. Amr Matoq is a Pediatric Interventional Cardiologist at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati. He earned his medical degree from Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt and completed his training in Florida, Delaware and Ohio. 

Subhrajit “SJ” Lahiri

Subhrajit “SJ” Lahiri

MD - Secretary

Dr. Subhrajit (SJ) Lahiri is an interventional cardiologist and director of the pediatric cardiac catheterization laboratory at Children’s Hospital of Oklahoma. Originally from Kolkata, India, he now resides with his family in Oklahoma City. SJ enjoys outdoor activities such as biking and hiking, and regularly practices mindfulness for personal well-being.

Rachel Taylor

MD - Clinical Afairs Chair

Rachel is a congenital interventional cardiologist at Children’s Nebraska and the University of Nebraska Medical Center. She enjoys the team mentality and creative problem solving in this career. If not in the lab, she can be found exploring farmers’ markets or playing with her pup.

Eiméar McGovern

Eiméar McGovern

BMedSci, MBBS, DCH – International Membership Chair

Eimear is an interventional paediatric cardiologist working in Dublin, Ireland. She completed cardiology fellowship in Vancouver, Canada and interventional fellowship in Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. She worked as an attending in Kentucky Children’s Hospital before returning home to Ireland. Eimear’s interests include Fontan interventions, preemie PDA closure and healthcare inequity.
