Dr. Kotani received his doctor of medicine degree from Kagawa University, Japan in 1999. He has completed his general surgical training in 2001. He then started cardiac surgery residency from 2002 at Okayama University Hospital. His did PhD work about heart transplantation from Non-heart beating donor and completed in 2007. He went to Madison, Wisconsin for research fellowship and continued the research work regarding with NHBD heart and lung transplantation (2009-2010). He then went to Canada for clinical fellowship at Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto (2011-2012) as well as St. Michael’s Hospital (2013). He returned to Japan and was appointed as a staff surgeon and assistant professor at Okayama University. He currently works as associate professor and is responsible for both clinical and research work.
He is acting as a council member of several Japanese Society of Cardiac Surgery and Pediatric Cardiology. He is Associate Editor of Operative Techniques in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery since 2016.
